The research underscores the benefits of sports performance hypnosis. One comprehensive review of 17 studies demonstrated that hypnosis is beneficial for enhancing athletic performance, especially for basketball, soccer, badminton, and golf.

In one study, basketball players were able to use relaxation and mental imagery to improve their free-throw performance. In another, runners were found to use cognitive patterns similar to hypnosis to better manage their running strategies and get more out of their experiences. Another study showed improvement in archery performance after active-alert hypnotherapy.
